Staying with Locals while travelling.

Why you should try couchsurfing

Have you ever heard of couchsurfing? It’s one of the best platforms for travelers, especially those who are on a tight budget. But you don’t necessarily have to be a poor backpacker just to couchsurf. In fact, couchsurfing is about so much more than just getting free accommodation. Here’s why you should try couchsurfing.

You’ll get to travel in a much different way

Couchsurfing is a way for you to get away from the hostels and hotels. It allows you to not only stay with locals, or expats, for free, but you’ll also get a glimpse into the local people’s lives, where they live, what they eat, what they do, etc. Couchsurfing opens up a door that hostels never can. Imagine going to Japan for example and you couchsurf at a local persons place. You’ll get to know this local host, see their house, get to ask questions about their lives and Japan, and more. You wouldn’t get this opportunity if you decided to stay in hostels.

You’ll get friends for life

Oftentimes your hosts will go above and beyond to make sure that you’re having a great time. They’ll most likely want to take you out and show you the area, share their favorite local restaurants and talk about how life is where they live. When you spend so much time with your host, you’ll get to know them quicker and you’ll soon discover how much you have in common with them. And all of a sudden you’ve made a friend for life. That’s what couchsurfing is for— connecting travelers and people with each other.

You get free accommodation

Of course, couchsurfing is also about getting free accommodation. This’ll be especially useful for those who are traveling on a tight budget and can’t spend 20$ per night at a hostel for example. Couchsurfing allows you to sleep at other people’s places for free basically. But it comes with so much more.

Couchsurfing will make you more open minded

When you meet people from different parts of the world and get to stay at their place, you’ll start hearing their stories and get to know the locals in a much more intimate way. Perhaps you came to a country with an idea of how things are, but then your host is completely different and that’ll make you reevaluate things. You’ll find yourself much more open minded after you’ve tried couchsurfing a few times. It really is the best way to travel, if you’re interested in getting to know a country and its citizens. It’s nice to stay in hostels and hotels, but how many times can you say that you’ve stayed at a locals place, and all for free?
